Organic is one of the fastest growing sectors of the US food industry, yet many people are not aware that the roots of the modern organic movement date back nearly a century. This workshop will explore the evolution of organic agriculture and certification and the importance of maintaining healthy soils in agricultural systems. Participants will also learn how humans mimic natural soil processes through composting and receive instruction on how to set up their own home composting system. The class will end with a tour of the Cal Poly Compost Unit. Saturday, March 21st from 9am – 1pm at Cal Poly.
